In the previous lessons we learned how to spell and analyze triads, which are the most common harmony used in music. In this lesson we will begin to learn about another very common harmony, one with four notes: the seventh chord. As with triads, we can built seventh chords on all the scale degrees of the major and minor scales, producing five different qualities of seventh chords. Below is a complete list of the seventh chords built from the major scale, and a list of the most commonly used seventh chords built from the minor scale.
